What does Flatcast mean?

When you enter a station on Flatcast, you do not only hear music — you see who is in the room, you can join the conversation, and you share the same moment as the DJ.
Think of it as the modern, organized version of the classic “live room” culture: not a closed club, but an open broadcast lounge for everyone. Some people only listen, some chat, some step up to the microphone and open their own station. All of it happens on one platform, in one clear structure.
Who uses Flatcast?
Flatcast welcomes four different journeys. The same person can move from one step to the next over time — a guest listener today may become a member tomorrow, and a DJ later on.
1. Guest listener
You can explore Flatcast without signing up. From the homepage or the list of active stations, you browse live broadcasts and open the one that catches your interest. The player opens; if the show is live, the chat comes alive too.
As a guest, you can join the chat with a temporary nickname and appear on the listener list. Registration is not required — but if you keep coming back, membership gives you your own nick, color, and profile.

2. Member
When you join Flatcast as a member, you are no longer an anonymous visitor — you become part of the network. Your profile shows your nick, your preferred chat color, and a short introduction. Every time you enter a station, people recognize you; DJs and listeners remember who you are.
Membership also opens the door to the Pro DJ path. If you want your own internet radio, you can apply; once approved, you receive your own SID number and your own management panel.

3. Listener — the soul of the room
On Flatcast, a “listener” is not just someone wearing headphones. In a live station, the listener is a living part of the broadcast. You say hello in chat, comment on a song, thank the DJ — sometimes you listen quietly, sometimes you fill the room with energy. The online count and listener list show how alive a station really is.
On Flatcast, you listen to one station at a time. That is a deliberate choice: your attention stays in the room you are in. When you want to switch, you connect to another station — each room has its own atmosphere.
As a listener, following the chat rules and respecting the DJ and others matters. When needed, moderation tools such as mute or removal may be used — the goal is to keep every room enjoyable for everyone.
4. DJ — the heart of the broadcast
The DJ is the live face of a station on Flatcast. When you go live, your station becomes “on air”; it appears in the homepage lists and listeners flow into the room. In your player window you manage chat, watch the listener list, and hold the pulse of the room in your hands.
To broadcast, you go to the DJ login page. You sign in with your SID number and DJ password; then your player, mixer, and theme windows open. You play music in the mixer, speak on the microphone, and listeners hear you and talk with you in chat.
For professional teams, there is the KAPI system. When the door is closed, only you are on air; when you open it, another DJ can take over — chat stays open and the broadcast hands over smoothly. The station owner can end the broadcast completely when needed.

What does a day on Flatcast look like?
Morning — guest: You open the homepage and browse the live list. You find a slow station, press play, and listen. A few people write “good morning” in chat; you join in.
Afternoon — member: You sign up, set your nick and color. Now you are recognized every time you enter a room. You follow your favorite DJ's schedule.
Evening — DJ: Your Pro application has been approved; you have your own station. You log in as DJ and go live. You pick tracks in the mixer and speak on the mic from time to time. The listener list fills up, chat gets lively. At midnight you open the door and hand the show to a friend.

What does a station owner (Pro DJ) do?
Everyone with Pro approval has a station and a management panel. From there you edit the station name, genre, and description; you set the DJ password and share it with guest DJs. You copy a ready-made player embed for your website. With “Take the Broadcast” you go live yourself, or you wait for a DJ you trust to take over.
Controls such as KAPI and “End Broadcast” stay in the station owner's hands. When the broadcast is handed over, chat remains open; when you want to shut everything down, you end the show completely.
